Either there was a really bad batch which Adambomb got or the manufacturing is just plain sh1te.

Managed to kill one of his at the shootout in an X1, wasn't even trying! The voice coil just came detatched from the former as one complete lump and there is no evidence of any glue residue on the former. No evidence of overheating. The lead-in/out wires seemed to be the only thing holding it in position!

Edit: found a pic that Florian took...

Are you sure this didn't happen from the coil hittingthe back of the gap?

I had similar things happen to V18-1000's in X1s, which we put down to a number of factors, such as not having steep enough high pass filters in place and a reduction in damping factor from running amp at 4ohms bridged and 10m of cable...

If you model it you'll see massive excursion below the tuning frequency of the rear chamber....

These go to eleven...

I was watching the drivers quite carefully and although they were excurting a long way, I'm fairly sure they weren't reaching Xmech.

It's the fact that I can't find any evidence that the voice coil was ever glued on there properly in the first place. I've seen voice coils cooked, damaged where they've hit the back of the gap and unwound from overheating but this one has just slid cleanly off the former.

I'm starting to agree with that.. in hindsight 4 out of the 5 failiures I have had died exactly like this... and 1 did actually burn out.
However.. I think I might have a problem actually getting anything out of PAP now.Edited by: Adambomb

no you wont, youve not gone out of your way to cause any problems, if anything you provided an alternative so that the "rules" don't need to be broke.

You can but ask. I think it's quite poor that 4 drivers should fail quite so easily. You may not want the drivers but we can soon find a use for them!
