pd 1850 chamber size... was created by bee
ok ive been playing around with a new scoop design, the chamber size is coming out at about 40.5 liters with driver in, 58.5 litres without driver, is this too small for the 1850 driver in a scoop...........

Hi Bee, long time no speak mate

In my experience 40litres with the PD1850 is not bad, definitely worth building/trying.

You maybe shocked to know some of the most impressive scoops ive heard have approx 40 to 50 litres without te driver

Also there is alot more then just the chamber which effects the performance of the scoop

So why not mock it up and try it?!

ive done a ruff design in autocad, ive opted for the non sim route on this one, just a bit concerned on the volume chamber, seems a bit small...... i can re draw and make it about 70 litres.

I've never sim'ed anything

i like trial and error

whatever people say they cant sim a scoop perfectly. All the previous attempts fell flat on their ass's [excuse the pun]

surely that depends on all the other parameters like throat, horn length, expansion, etc, etc , etc

Chamber too small, will strangle the driver (Dub Defectors Supers + 1850s in Bristol)

Large chamber will require tricky throat expansion to maintain efficiency.. (e.g shortman mini)

Also important is "shape"/proportions of chamber.

Proportions I know that work are, rear chamber depth approx 200mm.

Scoops don't exactly follow folded horn design theory. Try to apply all of them, and you may end up with scoop that looks good on paper, but lacks efficiency 35-50hz.

Suggest you start by modifying Eminence design first.

EDIT:Have drawn up many designs I am confident in, but quotes I'm getting for building prototypes, means they are staying on my HD for now...
