Rebuild, Sell or burn? was created by generalhammond
Hi all. Novice here.
I have inherited a PA rig which is BIG, ugly and has no thump.
Everyone I ask has different suggestions for it. What I want it to do it to have 2/4 good tops which will deliver me good vocal sound over a a distance of about 100 feet. Id be using these for my band at venues from pub size to small outdoor events.
The bottom end needs to be made up of 2/4/6/8 speakers so I can take as many as required for the venue.
Heres the vital stats...
At present there are 2 subs with a total of 4 RCF L18-P300 drivers.
Also 2 subs with a total of 4 Eminence PS18-6008 8 ohm Drivers. (one needs dust cap fixing)
Cabinets are MDF
The tops have 2 x Eminence Kappa Pro 15 A drivers.
Also 2 x Fane? one and a half inch throat compdrivers with fane screw on horrible looking horn.
Also 4 in total bullets. I think they are 'Audio Pro 0809 and 0803'.
Cabinets are chip bourd with ply front.
To drive it i have
2x StudioMaster 700D amps.
2 x Studio Master 1600D amps.
1 x Ampcron 3600 watt amp.
Soundcraft 5 way crossover.
Beheringer EX1000 Bassflex unit. (on sale on Ebay at the moment).
Compressors.
Allen and heath Desk.
So what i want to know is,
Do i sell it all and buy something more 'Modern'?
Rebuild completly new cabs?
Burn it?
Part ex it. If so where???
Buy some used cabs to suit?
One suggestion i had was to take it all to a prominant speaker maker in mid wales and chop it in for something sexy.
Pics to follow.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The mid hi's seem to have been made for an install, What you do next will depend on how much money you want to spend.

Thanks for the replys.
The horn is definatly Fane. It says it on it!
It all works. Ive run the rig in its present state 4 times this year.
Budget.....Hmmmm. £0 but am willing to do whatever it takes to make a good rig. This does not include selling my body!
Ok maybe smiley35

Take the RCF l18p300's and build 4x 18" relfex cabinets like these...
www.bcspeakers.com/suggested.php?id=0000000008
Take the compression drivers / horns and the 15" eminence kappa and build boxes like these... speakerplans.com/index.php?id=x15
Have a garage sale and get rid of the eminence 18's, bullets, bassflex and left over cabinets. Use money to upgrade what you have just put in the tops above.
Use ultracurve for system eq.
If possible configure crossover to run mono sub and top boxes 2 way stereo. If not, sell and get a crossover that will.
The amps you have will be fine for the above setup.
At this point add money and go from there...

So what do I do with the tops.
Im thinking a 1x15 with the horn and maybe the bullets?
Then when i need more I could add on the other 15 in another box.
Do I need the bullets?
Would be nice to have the top so i can stand mount it if required so a 2x15 is not ideal.
Still open to ideas on a 2x15 though.
