why can't you play the 1" down lower - a decent 1" should go a lot lower than 3k - and by the looks of things the horn cutout is for a big horn too so i'd imagine it'd support lower than 3khz

it originally had a jbl 2" CD(2445j on a jbl 2380 horn) around 1000hz i cant find any 1" that will play that low. most say lower cutoff is about 2.5k, even if i can get it to there i would be happy.

i dont want 2" CD's because i was gonna make the top mid section passive xo

the trouble with a plug on the mid is it might not work, from all the reading and info ive found on phase plugs, the design of the horn plays a big factor. some horn designs would have an advers affect by adding a phase plug..... and others have no gain at all. From the look of the mid horn in the photo, being long with no rearl flare extention, i dont think a plug would have any real effect.......

Tony sold me a pair of the 4538s and i stupidly didn't realize they were 2 bolt CDs

but what amazed me was the weight - literally bugger all - was dead impressed for a ferrite CD.

also got some other BMS now, and i'm very happy with the quality of it all. those germans.... smiley32

but since your in USA, i don't know about the availability of BMS.

maybe look at a B&C DE250? they're probably one of the best ferrite 1" you'll get and they can run quite low compared to other drivers and yet still sound very clean.

edit: here you go: www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=294-605

$125 is pretty reasonable

thanks gentlemen, both the BMSand B&C look promising, i can adapt them to my JBL 2380 horns and they are supposed to have a cutoff of around 500 hz up to 16khz, not too worried about much above that. (i cant hear it anyways).
Lots of 10's work as per sim. the cabs had vintage jbl's and ev's in there, but im gonna add something new.
thats for pointing me towards the right CDs guys!
Mike
