I wonder how big a desk would have had to be in the '70's or '80's to contain all the facilities in the Digico desk, assuming that all the bits were available then. Probably a ten man lift at least.

Well - if you were to totally max it out, you'd need a 96 channel, 16 aux board.. so heritage 4000 territory already (six-eight man lift!)
64 stereo compressors
64 stereo gates
16 31-band eqs
8 multi-fx units
52-way multicore hanging off the end of it (SD9 uses a bit of CAT5)
I work that out to be 120 rack U (if you used stereo comp/gates, and the EQs were 3U)
So, four 30u racks of outboard, an H4000 and the power supply rack, and a whopping multicore!!!
Crazy isn't it, how sometimes new technology really does wee all over the old stuff.

Yes quite amazing, I have a colleague who has got amongst many other things a Soundcraft series 5, which he used for monitoring, you can't really reach the back, needless to say he has a few digital desks so his life, like everybody else's is a lot easier these days.

I would rather not show mine. I use a berry 1832FX. Small and compact.
