There's lots of good sub drivers for your situation. Have you considered aperiodic loading or Linkwitz transform? I'll post a few suggestions later.

My mate uses Volt 4504s in his set up,his cabs are fairly compact..great if you want to fit it all in the van....soundwise a bit debatable but they do the job.

JS, if you haven't made one already, I'd seriously consider Linkwitz Transform (there's an excellent article on it at ESP).
Bag End use it in their hifi subs actually.
Basically, you electrically modify the driver's parameters - you lower Fs at a cost of efficiency. It's a good compromise in hifi when you're using a sealed sub and one that I'm looking into for some sealed or 4th order BP subs for a pair of LS3/5As.

No -</strike> it's usually a little board in between amp and source.
The sub as a whole works normally - you cross it as how you wish with the DCX.

Terribly sorry, I'll correct myself[img]smileys/smiley9.gif[/img]. You can approximate a Linkwitz transform with a shelving filter and two band filters (changing Qs at the new and old Fbs).
