looking for Bullets!! was created by Daz
Hi all
I have been trying to source some bullet HF horns. Ordinarily I would have gone strait for JBLs but I have found that they are no longer manufactured smiley35 . All the other units I seem to be finding are from China and seem to be very poor sensitivity. I am looking to build a pair of HF cabs with 4 horns in each, to pick up the top end from where a pair of 2" CD horns run out of puff (ie from 10 to about 18KHz). i have also looked at slot tweeters but found the same deal.
any ideas?
Thanks smiley20

A number of 2" Comps can do significantly better than 10k.
If you have to keep current comps, 2x Beyma CP22 bullets per 2" comp, coming in on 18db slope at 10K, with "suitable" parametric eq, will have your mouth watering...

Now thats what Im talkin about. I know that my current JBL 2" CD units can go up to 16Khz at a stretch but I dont want to stretch em. They are happy bangin out a nice well dispersed upper mid/lower top so I would like to leave them doing what they are best at and fill in the last little bit with the bullets.
Dare I ask the price of the Beyma units. I was thinking of going for 4 per side in a curved array and running them gently to keep the dispersion without being overbearing or too spikey at the very top smiley1 .
Thanks for the info smiley20

Used to be approx £50 each, now closer to £60

They are not cheap, nasty units, so no need for piles of them like piezos, if you run them properly (LMS, nice sounding amp on hf).
Another possibility would be 1x quality B&C/BMS/Beyma 1" comp above each 2".

Once again thanks for the info smiley20
I hear yah. I am more concerned with maintaining good dispersion so the extra units are not for show or noise but mearly to give a good spread across a 120deg or so field. At 60 each its still a bargin. Thats less than 500 for the top I want. Like I said I dont want to run the nuts off them LOL. At 107db they sound like the very job. Thanks again for taking the time to pick up on this one. You have saved me loads of time and probably a fair chunk of cash. NICE ONE smiley20

Thanks Tony
Will take a look. Has anyone tried the Eminence APT units. I have used them with the CD horn but not with a conical horn. If I remember correctly the frequency response drops of at a little above 11 or 12khz so they may not be happy in the band I want to use them in. Open to ideas tho smiley38
Thanks all

Tweeters are usually quite narrow dispersion, so in your search for tweeters do you have an idea of how many you will need, and are you only looking for something cheap?
