Turbomax drivers.
I see these have great respect, but only 4" coil compared to 1850's, 5".

Is there a different approach to the devistation they cause?
Do they suffer from the growl as back plate gets hit, like on 1850?
Is 1851 now the king?

Why is the Fane 1500/Prime not out there in Roots world?

Not going to go on about what is, or isn't King due to the risk of being called names and having pictures of brown envelopes of money posted etc etc.... smiley36

But I would just like to say that the Prime XS is a reflex driver and doesn't seem to like 'scoopish' environments at all.

1851, Turbomax, 1850 all have their strengths and weaknesses, advantages/disadvantages.

The Turbomax makes up for only 4" VC with longer coil.

No point in buying Turbomax, if you never have the wall juice to drive them properly.

Have heard all these drivers, in multiples, and overall, prefer the 1850.

Comparing everything I've heard (not specs), I prefer the throw, air movement, sensitivity of the '50, compared to the warmth and depth of the '51.

The Turbomax will exceed both in the right box, with enough power, but only if you have heavy amps putting "true" 1200W into each driver.

all provided the drivers are in their preffered cabinet of course.

have personally heard 1851's mash up 1850's in a couple of "certain" boxes.

im sure there was a thread on here recently talking about how the 5" coil can dissipate heat better than a 4", and are thus usually more sensitive (in high BL drivers)

When Kayak played 4x 1851 loaded RX18DCs in RicenPeas in South London, yes, have never felt floor tremble like that before.

But at the back of the venue SPL wasn't too hot.. 50s in the standard S118 would have murdered that place..

So "maybe" we're still waiting for the perfect 1851 full scoop.
SteveBs, S118s, Stravens already proven for 50s.
Some believe they already have the perfect Turbomax 1200 full scoop.

+1

Think to get the power handling & BL on the Tmax 1200, instead of using industrial magnet & 5"VC, RMJ used thicker longer coil, which also resulted in lower sensitivity, as possibly indicated by Qes.

there's a few boxes i'd like to try the 51's in before i make my mind up, old and new... smiley1 But for what the 50' is....overall it is still my favourite sub for scoops smiley1 havent played with turbomax myself though...would like to try them though to fully know how they are, rather than basing my opinions on how i've heard other people play them. to expensive to try it all though smiley19

Wonder what a scoop, perfect for the '51, would be worth..

Still have an un-built design, which may get built real soon... smiley23
