ok, when it comes to modems and all that, i'm not very familiar with the ins and outs of it all

the situation:

we're having a problem where our wireless internet modem isn't covering the whole property.

There's an office that is out of the house, and then two or three laptops in use in the house.

When we put the wireless modem out in the office, the laptops struggle to pick it up, and then when the wireless modem is in the house the desktop in the office can't pick it up.

So google says it is possible to put two wireless points on one "ssid"

just looking for really simple pointers as to how to do it - the best explanation online was written almost entirely in jargon

do the modems need to be identical?

i hear apple do a "booster" unit where it automatically picks up networks, and extends their range. but this option is bound to be expensive.

advice please....

ONE connected to the phone line if you only have one number.

Range extenders that recon thay do it as" Repeaters" are poo.

Cable (Ethernet) to another ACCESS POINT in the building set with your default gateway as the IP address of main router.

Access points are 30 odd quid.

Or Wireless homeplugkit to do same as long as on same ring main. More like 80 qud plus and a little prone to packing up in my experience.

Run an ethernet cable to an access point.

Little tip on cheapo access poits, have the default dns set to 0.0.0.0 let it all work though the default gateway setting.

Or the Netgears are reliable.

Also try changing channel and security type in router first, also make sure it is nowhere near a walkabout phone.

Often a proper router with external add on ariel can do the job.
