An acoustic waveguide is a physical structure for guiding sound waves. A duct for sound propagation also behaves like a transmission line. The duct contains some medium, such as air, that supports sound propagation.

Ok bitzo. Thanks for the info. Just trying to get into the mechanics/steps of building enclosures and testing them.

I'm still going thru bee's Akabak tutorial". Its very helpful and interesting for sure.

Ok, my understanding is that "Part 3" (not waveguide 3) in my drawing above, is actually the horn itself?

I understand that Part 1 is the throat and I can see that part 2 is -in fact- guiding or directing the initial and subsequant burst of sound waves (thus waveguide).

Is the term "waveguide" a term specific to Akabak software?

Do other speaker enclosure designers use the term "waveguide" in other software applications?

yes and no, the correct term for this is indeed waveguide, but hornresp etc dont use this term, as the way both programmes model an enclosure, horn, etc are very differant. akabak is a very complexed prog, but it allso lets you design anything the brain can think of. For example if it modeled your pic as a horn from section one, this limits what could be done. Say for example you wanted to put a duct (pipe) from the rear chamber and have the duct exiting into the second part of your horn, this is possible, because on the node system akabak works on, hornresp, works buy using a given size, but in akabak you can tell it the actual width, height, length and even driver position....... but it comes at a price........ its a hole lot of learning, and the coding can get very complexed. i would class my self still as a novice user, as there is so much more i need to learn. But its very addictive once you start getting results..... One thing to remember the more complexed the coding gets the more real to life your plotts will be, but the art is in the actual finished horn, cab, to sound and plott in real time as your prodicted plott did........... allso software will plott what the cab will soundlike in an ideal room etc, but in life there is no such ideal venue or room....... unless its in a test lab............ one nice touch with akabak is you can import the coding from hornresp, and start adding things to it, like driver position.......

on winxp I never had this error. May be isn't fully compatible. so try to run akabak in compatibility mode.
