Hi Cubo!

thanks for the suggestion...I'm going with the 3 x Cubo12 solution. working on the plans to be cut with CNC machine at the moment.

wanted to ask your opinion on the handle detail....what handle type/design have you used on your models? I have used a Penn Elcom one on my cubo 15 as the picture enclosed , it's solid but it is also quite deep...so I was wondering if you have any other suggestion before I purchase it and cut the pocket for it on the wood..

thanks !

I use wooden handles on my own models, which take up about the same space inside the chamber as that Penn Elcom model. No suggestions to add,

Best regards

Thanks Cubo, for the great design.

I am super happy with the Cubo 12.

Build: 18mm Birch Ply.
Construction Method: Batern + Glue + Screw.
Finish: Tuff Cab
Cone: Oberton 12B450

I did the braces slightly different with two braces along the top so as to allow for the Top hat.

Some build pics: All done but for the metal grill which I am still waiting on.

Oh bother my post didn't post... Take 2.

I associate rumble with the sort of sound you get from a stack of hogs.

So no I wouldn't describe the sound from a Cubo 12 as rumble.

It is tight and controled with very little distortion. The sort of thumpy bass you feel in your legs and chest.

Mine current drop off very fast bellow 50hz, but my eyeball measurments tells me i have plenty of X-max left, so i will try backing off the Hi-Pass a little.

The word I would use to describe them is surprising, that is also the affect they have on the people I have demoed them to.

@ Cubo 15

I would be very interested in getting a cone displacement vs frequency graph for the Oberton B450 if you got a chance.

T&S can be found here: www.oberton.com/en/products/ferrite-loud...kers/172-12b450.html

Unfortunately I can't find the Xmech for this driver, makes me a bit nervous.

The only way a vid could tell you anything is in a direct comparison to another speaker you are already familiar with.

I am hoping to take some outdoor measurments in a couple of weeks. I will post results but again, these will not be calibrated measurements, so the results can't be used to compare against anything else.

So again not very useful.

You could play some test tones (sines) at low to moderate volume or a slow sine sweep, probably easiest found on YouTube.
About 5 Hz below the minimum excursion (around 40 - 55 Hz) is the lowest I would put the high pass.

With Cubo enclosures in general and these drivers and Cubo 12 in particular, over-excursion is hardly ever a problem. Most drivers find a premature end due to over-heating, as excursion is about 1.4 times lower, for a given input, compared to a similar tuned and sized reflex cabinet.

I've actually designed some cabinets similar to the Cubo-series, that need an boost in excursion, to keep them sufficiently cooling themselves. That being said, asking Oberton for the Xmech couldn't hurt.

Best regards

Cubo
