new toys- now with bowls

I don't mind that the euro went so strong. I love buying in the US these days.

For such small pieces the bowls proved quite labour intensive:



8 rings like above plus 2 circles had to be cut then routered individually.



i knew we kept the baffle cutouts for a reason. [img]smileys/smiley2.gif[/img]



before they were glued and pinned we had to put holes in each one as they attach from the back with a bolt running through all the pieces and into the threaded horn. we didn't have a drill bit long enough so we drilled through each one separately on a pillar drill.



they really were more painstaking than they look. the groove on the inside was used as a kind of key to match the layers together and will give us space to get the cable in. i'd be keen to know how other back bowls get the cable in and remain airtight. i'm considering a foot or so length of cable and filling around the hole to keep it airtight (i'm paranoid about possible side effects of the cable being coiled round the magnet) or some kind of neoprene wedge which could be a lot more graceful.



but it looks alright in place, the bolts match up at least and due to the size of the magnet this tubular bowl shape is very very close [img]smileys/smiley1.gif[/img]

congratulations, so much work...they look nice.

I used mykey's bowls for my 12" and it saved hours of woodwork. To get the cable,I just drilled a hole smaller than the cable and then forced it in....it is  airtight.

first the update. we worked from 8 till 11 last night and got these sorted:



despite the fact that we were knackered due to already having done a days work (hence the single photo) they were far far easier than the bowls [img]smileys/smiley36.gif[/img]

i'm going to finish them this afternoon, they only need a tiny amount of filling because we pinned rather than screwed it. colour will be bright orange. the only hitch now is the mounting for the horn itself. the angle on the trapezoidal shape hasn't left us room to get t nuts down the vertical sides, just top and bottom- doh! wood screws it is.
